We recently had a class on Meshtastic as part of our Makerspace creates series. The class was packed and people appreciated it. We know this because not only that they tell the instructor this verbatim, but they’ve clearly also told their friends & family about Meshtastic. As a result, we’ve been getting some emails lamenting that they missed it, asking if we’re going to have more classes or workshops, and asking how they can become involved in the local Meshtastic community.
On top of that, some of the class participants also wanted to know how to stay connected in case they have questions, or want to coordinate on putting up a solar node, write some software, or get help if they run into problems down the road.
So, here are the rapid fire answers:
- We’ve started a mailing list for Meshtastic users signup here
- It’s open to anyone
- Join the list to ask questions, offer help, share your project, find collaborators, hear about what’s going on, etc
- We may have more Meshtastic classes or a workshop
- Class would be similar to what we did this time, with a group discussion & then assembling devices
- Workshop would be just building devices
- No decision has been made on whether this will happen, it largely depends on people expressing interest
- If we do, we’ll announce it on the aforementioned Meshtastic mailing list, mention it on our social media
- There may be a group buy of hardware in the future
- Buying all the parts to make one device is about $50-60
- Buying all the parts to make 10 devices is about $330 ($33/each)
- Join the mailing list if you’re interested, as it’ll be coordinated there
Thank you to all who attended, who helped set up and tear down for the event, the Urbana Arts & Culture Grant for funding the event, and everyone who has expressed interest afterwards.
