Hello everyone!
Just writing to keep you up to date with the Makerspace and all that’s happening here. I apologize that I missed the July update.
First, A brief rule change with the space. Dogs and other pets are no longer allowed in the Makerspace. There have been a few times that people were made unconformable – and frankly, this is a closed-toe shoe space. Animals are likely not a good idea. Service animals are still welcome.
Next, you may have seen that the Makerspace web page is newly updated and working. Everyone will do their best to keep it up to date and the central place to check for any news, events, or anything else related to the Makerspace. Check it out. Makerspaceurbana.org
In other news we have two new 3D-printers (again). These new ones are Creality brand Ender 5 and an Ender 5 Plus. They have very large build volumes and are capable of making large costume pieces along with other things. This brings our total up to five (mostly) working printers.
This leads directly into the plan to expand training on the equipment. Adam has volunteered to teach everyone how to 3D-print during open hours Aug 28th starting at 7pm. Come if you want to learn how to use the 3D-printers.
Update on the Urbana Arts Grant:
If you hadn’t heard we have accepted the grant money from the Urbana arts Grant and started holding classes and other programming. First, Thank you Kari for hosting July’s stained glass class. Several people came and had a good time making stained glass butterflies.
The next class will be August 24 1pm-3pm Adam will be leading us through setting up Mesh-tastic radios and 3D printing the cases. Join if you want to learn about decentralized communication with a little bit of CAD design. https://makerspaceurbana.org/all-events/?event=258
After that we will have September 7 – Archival Collage, and October 23rd – Day of the Dead memory stickers; both taught by Marisa. Look out for sign-ups when they are closer.
And don’t forget our regular reoccurring events:
Community Open Hours: Every Thursday 6 pm to 9pm and every Saturday 11am to 2pm
Fiber Night: The first Tuesday of each month 6pm to 9 pm
Repair Cafe: Third Thursday of each month 6pm to 9pm (during open hours)
We have great things planned for the next few months and best way to be a part of it is to stop in!
