About Makerspace Urbana

Grand Re-Opening! : Saturday, March 24, 2024; 1-4pm. Come check us out.

Public Open Hours are Thursdays 7pm-9pm.

We are located in the basement of the Independent Media Center in Urbana (see the video below).

Face masks will continue to be required in our space — it is a tight space and we have vulnerable folks in our midsts.

The information on this website may not be up to date. If you have questions about what Makerspace is all about, we encourage you to stop by in person during our Open Hours!

Makerspace Urbana, a working group of the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, is dedicated to enabling the blend of arts, humanities, science and technology. Our mission is to provide an open community lab where people of diverse backgrounds can learn, teach, tinker, collaborate, share, innovate, socialize, and create.

For more details on how we came to be, check out this excellent presentation one of our members put together: Intro to Makerspace Urbana.  Thanks, James!

We always welcome new makers and would love to have you drop in to check out our space. Check our calendar or Facebook page for open hours and events.

We’re located at 202 S. Broadway Ave in Urbana at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (IMC).  Our space is in the basement, at the end of the hall beside the costume closet and at the opposite end of the hall from the bike project.  Here’s a little video to help enter via the outside stairs on the south side of the building:

If the outside door is locked, we will have a phone number posted on the door, so please bring your cell phone. Sorry for the inconvenience. The IMC is working to improve the situation.
