Computer Help Desk
About the Help Desk
The Computer Help Desk is a project of the Tech & Makerspace working groups. It was established to provide free personal computer diagnostic and repair services to the community. The Help Desk is staffed entirely by volunteers. All donations to the Help Desk, including suggested donations for standardized services go towards the Makerspace Group and its projects.
Get Help
If you live in Champaign County, you can get computer help at the help desk in person.
When: Sundays 2-4pm
Where: Makerspace Urbana at the Independent Media Center 202 S Broadway, #16 in the basement Urbana, IL 61802
What to expect: You can get help with basic triage and troubleshooting of any computer issue, recommendations on next steps to solve the problem and then work with you toward a solution. The Help Desk uses a “collaborative repair” model, where you learn about the computer issues you’re experiencing and how to fix them alongside a more experienced volunteer.
Expect to expand your own knowledge and capacity for computer self-support, but don’t expect to drop off your machine and walk away. Come learn with us and empower yourself!
Volunteering
Anyone can volunteer to staff the Help Desk regardless of PC experience. Come volunteer with friendly, motivated volunteers to help your neighbors in Champaign-Urbana fix their own computers! You don’t need any experience in fixing computers or troubleshooting problems. That’s what the Help Desk is here to teach. You only need to be convinced that everyone deserves a working computer and be ready to learn.
